NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Retired New York Police Department Detective and Nassau County business leader, Mike Sapraicone on Tuesday announced his campaign for New York’s 3rd Congressional District.

Sapraicone is the Republican challenger to George Santos and will be seeking the Republican and Conservative Party nominations.

Sapraicone grew up in Richmond Hill, Queens, and began his 20-year law enforcement career in 1980 as a transit officer before he was promoted to first-grade detective.

Since retiring from the NYPD in 2000, he started Squad Security to provide security services to New York-based companies, including the American Stock Exchange.

“My campaign for Congress is about honest public service and hard work because my neighbors in Queens and Long Island deserve nothing less,” said Sapraicone. “I spent two decades in the NYPD serving and protecting our community before building a global security company from the ground up. I’m running for Congress to return integrity and a respected voice to the office, and to focus on issues like public safety, border security, and fiscal responsibility to get our country back on the right track.”
