—Sapraicone Pledges to Bring Back Honest Public Service

Retired New York Police Department Detective and Nassau County business leader, Mike Sapraicone, today announced his campaign for New York’s 3rd Congressional District.  Sapraicone is a registered Republican who will be seeking the Republican and Conservative Party nominations.

“My campaign for Congress is about honest public service and hard work because my neighbors in Queens and Long Island deserve nothing less,” said Michael D. Sapraicone. “I spent two decades in the NYPD serving and protecting our community before building a global security company from the ground up. I’m running for Congress to return integrity and a respected voice to the office, and to focus on issues like public safety, border security, and fiscal responsibility to get our country back on the right track.”

“I am also laser focused on delivering for the constituents of the 3rd District on Long Island and in Queens,” Sapraicone continued. They have been unfairly neglected. Constituent service will be a cornerstone of my campaign and time in office – whether it is helping a resident get a passport or making sure our communities get our fair share of funding from Washington, I will be there for them and that’s a promise. No problem too small. And I am prepared to work across the aisle to get things done and end the dysfunction in Washington.”

Support from Respected Voices

“Throughout his career and personal life, Mike Sapraicone has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to protecting our quality of life and strengthening our community,” said former U.S. Senator Alfonse D’Amato. “From his early days walking a beat in New York to his success in creating a business in the security industry to his quiet but considerable philanthropic support of charitable institutions, to his advocacy on behalf of veterans, I can’t think of a more appropriate candidate to represent the Third Congressional District.”

“Mike Sapraicone led a stellar, two-decade career protecting New Yorkers,” said NYPD Detectives’ Endowment Association President Paul DiGiacomo. “His dedication to service, public safety, and our men and women in blue is needed now more than ever on Capitol Hill. There is no doubt he is the right person with the integrity that is needed to serve in Congress.”

“Mike Sapraicone is a person of unquestionable integrity with unparalleled leadership skills,” said Angelo Vivolo, president of the Italian Heritage Coalition. “As a board member of the Columbus Citizens Foundation and Co-Chairman of the National Columbus Day Parade in NYC, Mike has demonstrated his outstanding ability to bring people together and make decisions. He is undoubtedly the right person at the right time to represent New Yorkers in congress — and restore the trust the people deserve.”

“I have known Mike Sapraicone and admire and respect him for his incredible work in law enforcement – and for his generosity in supporting worthy charitable organizations,” said Bernadette Castro, former Commissioner of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. “He would represent New Yorkers well in Congress! His added voice would be welcomed.”

After growing up in Richmond Hill, Queens, Mike Sapraicone began his 20-year law enforcement career in 1980 as a transit officer protecting millions of subway riders.  Mike was later promoted to first-grade detective—a rank in which he worked to bring high-profile criminals to justice.

Being at the foundation of New York City’s turnaround, Mike saw first-hand the impact of crime on the New York’s economy and the need for businesses to have a private security option. It was with this in mind that he started Squad Security to provide security services to New York-based companies, including the American Stock Exchange. Since retiring from the NYPD in 2000, Mike has grown this small business into a global security firm in the heart of Long Island and employed more than 600 active and retired members of law enforcement.

Mike Sapraicone served as president of the Seaford Union Free School District Board of Education and is Chairman of the Board Emeritus at Holy Cross High School in Flushing. He currently sits on the boards of the Museum of American Armor in Old Bethpage, Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation, Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital, Catholic Youth Organization, and the Columbus Citizens Foundation, for which he Co-Chaired New York City’s Columbus Day Parade.

Mike is a nationally-recognized security expert and has frequently appeared on NBC’s Today Show, Fox News, MSNBC and CNN.  He also hosted “Mike Sapraicone’s Street Smart” on Long Island News Radio.

Mike attended City University of New York John Jay College of Criminal Justice and served in the United States Navy, receiving an Honorable Discharge.

Mike has lived on Long Island for 32 years and currently resides in the Town of Oyster Bay with his wife Eileen. Mike is the father of five children and has five grandchildren.
