MIKE SAPRAICONE ANNOUNCES CAMPAIGN FOR NEW YORK’S 3rd CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT
Confronting anti-Semitism Here – Standing with Israel in the Middle East
Retired New York Police Department Detective and Nassau County business leader Michael D. Sapraicone today announced his campaign for New York’s 3rd Congressional District. Sapraicone is a registered Republican who will be seeking the Republican and Conservative Party nominations.
“I spent two decades serving and protecting our community and I built a global security company from the ground up,”said Mike Sapraicone. “I’m running for Congress because I believe it’s important to return integrity to this office and because we need to focus on issues like public safety, border security and fiscal responsibility to get our country back on the right track.”
Confronting Hate
“The rise of anti-Semitic attacks here in the United States is a grim reminder that hatred, bigotry, and intolerance is a cancer that continues to attack the fabric of our American democracy. We have a moral obligation to denounce it, stand against it, and prosecute those who engage in actions of religious and ethnic violence,” Sapraicone stated.
Sapraicone continued. “In addition, we are seeing some in Congress seek to divide us in our support of Israel, our most important Middle East ally. With AOC, Ilhan Omar and other members of the Socialist Squad boycotting an address to Congress by Israeli President Herzog and opposing funding Israel’s Iron Dome, it is obvious we need strong leaders in Congress who will vigilantly defend this strategic partnership.”
“I will use my experience in law enforcement and as the founder of a global security firm to support Israel and strengthen America’s commitment to Israel’s national security and defense,” concluded Sapraicone. “I will also use that experience to combat the rise of anti-Semitism in this country and ensure the safety and security of our religious institutions and houses of worship.”
Support from Respected Voices
“To have neither a religious or ethnic connection to the Jewish people, and yet that individual confronts anti-semitism and stands with Israel, their actions reveal their personal integrity and strong moral compass,” said Lawrence Kadish, Founding Chairman of the Republican Jewish Coalition. “Michael Sapraicone is one such person and I welcome the opportunity to endorse his candidacy for Congress.”
“Mike Sapraicone led a stellar, two-decade career protecting New Yorkers,” said NYPD Detectives’ Endowment Association President Paul DiGiacomo. “His dedication to service, public safety, and our men and women in blue is needed now more than ever on Capitol Hill. There is no doubt he is the right person with the integrity that is needed to serve in Congress.”
“I have known Mike Sapraicone and admire and respect him for his incredible work in law enforcement – and for his generosity in supporting worthy charitable organizations,” said Bernadette Castro, former Commissioner of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. “He would represent New Yorkers well in Congress! His added voice would be welcomed.”
“Throughout his career and personal life, Mike Sapraicone has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to protecting our quality of life and strengthening our community,” said former U.S. Senator Alfonse D’Amato. “From his early days walking a beat in New York to his success in creating a business in the security industry to his quiet but considerable philanthropic support of charitable institutions, to his advocacy on behalf of veterans, I can’t think of a more appropriate candidate to represent the Third Congressional District.”
A Career in Law Enforcement and Security Challenges
After growing up in Richmond Hill, Queens, Mike Sapraicone began his 20-year law enforcement career in 1980 as a transit officer protecting millions of subway riders. Mike was later promoted to first-grade detective—a rank in which he worked to bring high-profile criminals to justice.
Being at the foundation of New York City’s turnaround, Mike saw first-hand the impact of crime on New York’s economy and the need for businesses to have a private security option. It was with this in mind that he started Squad Security to provide security services to New York-based companies, including the American Stock Exchange. Since retiring from the NYPD in 2000, Mike has grown this small business into a global security firm in the heart of Long Island and employed more than 600 active and retired members of law enforcement.
Mike Sapraicone served as president of the Seaford Union Free School District Board of Education and is Chairman of the Board Emeritus at Holy Cross High School in Flushing. He currently sits on the boards of the Museum of American Armor in Old Bethpage, Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation, Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital, Catholic Youth Organization, and the Columbus Citizens Foundation, for which he Co-Chaired New York City’s Columbus Day Parade.
Mike is a nationally-recognized security expert and has frequently appeared on NBC’s Today Show, Fox News, MSNBC and CNN. He also hosted “Mike Sapraicone’s Street Smart” on Long Island News Radio.
Mike attended City University of New York John Jay College of Criminal Justice and served in the United States Navy, receiving an Honorable Discharge.
Mike has lived on Long Island for 32 years and currently resides in the Town of Oyster Bay with his wife Eileen. Mike is the father of five children and has five grandchildren.
